Quail Hunting

Responding to requests from some quail hunters, the Wildlife Department asked Game Harvest Survey respondents to consider a handful of changes to the quail season. 

Participation in quail season (1999-season hunting license holders)

Preference for days of the week to hunt quail (1999-season hunting license holders who hunted quail at least once in the last three years)

Most hunters preferred to leave quail season open every day of the week.

Preference for quail season timing (1999-season hunting license holders who hunted quail at least once in the last three years)

By a slight majority, most quail hunters preferred a season running from November 1 - January 31.

Preference for daily quail bag limit (1999-season hunting license holders who hunted quail at least once in the last three years)

Most quail hunters preferred to keep the daily bag limit at 10 birds.

Preference for quail shooting hours (1999-season hunting license holders who hunted quail at least once in the last three years)

Most quail hunters preferred quail shooting hours from sunrise to sunset.

Preference for plugged/unplugged shotguns (1999-season hunting license holders who hunted quail at least once in the last three years)

Most quail hunters preferred to hunt with an unplugged shotgun.
