8: Migratory Game Bird Natural History and Identification Program for hunters and those interested in learning more about identifying game birds such as the secretive rails, snipe and early-season waterfowl in southwest Oklahoma. If you have ever wanted to get a better handle on telling the difference between fall plumage Northern Pintail and fall plumage Green-winged Teal, this is the program for you!  Program will also include natural history information on some of these species.  The hour-long program begins at 10 am at the Center.  The program is suitable for ages 12 years to 99.  There is no fee.  For more information please email:  mhickman@zoo.odwc.state.ok.us or call Melynda Hickman at 405-990-4977.  Click http://www.wildlifedepartment.com/education/hackberry_flat.htm  for directions to the Center.

10: The Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation Regular Commission Meeting. Meetings are held monthly at the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation Building (auditorium), 1801 N. Lincoln, Oklahoma City, OK at 9:00 am.

15: The Nature Center located at the Watchable Wildlife Area will be open from 9 am – 3 pm.  The biologist on duty will be happy to visit with visitors about wildlife in the area or take a walk with you on the nature trail.  Hours will be 9 am to 3 pm.

15: Explore the Prairie at Night at Byron Hatchery WWA. Learn more about the activities of wildlife at night, particularly after a hot August day. We'll try to communicate with owls, capture bats in mist nets and sniff spiders. This activity will be limited to 20 people. No fee but reservations required. 15: OKNAVHDA Training Day. OKNAVHDA is the local chapter to NAVHDA (North American Versatile Hunting Dog Association) and conducts monthly dog training events including Upland Field work, Waterfowl Retrieving, and Tracking. We welcome guests to come out and see what our training days are all about. 18: Chris Edwards will present a Whitetail Deer hunting seminar at Bass Pro Shops in Broken Arrow at 7 pm. in the upstairs seminar room. Chris has been the Hunting Department Manager at this facility for many years, and is also an experienced guide, hunter and outdoorsman. The event is free and open to the public.
