Fishing Report

We know that fishing in Oklahoma can be good nearly all year round but the peak time for most species and anglers is March to June, which is when we require reports to be submitted. If there is a particular lake you would like to know about during the non-required report time you can contact the county game warden or a local bait shop to check on the lake conditions before heading out.

Additional Information:
All fishing activity slowed the past week due to the wintry weather conditions. However, early in the week there were some nice catches of bluecats taken on cut bait. Fish were being caught from 3’ of water on the flats to 30’ in the river channel. Shad are still difficult to locate. Best bets remain the Sarge Creek and Washunga bridge areas. With the weather predicted to be warm next week and a slight increase in river flow the white bass should become active in the “Hilltop” area as well as under the River bridge east of Newkirk. Good luck! Wear your PFD and take someone fishing today!

Additional Information:
The Lake is currently 4 feet below normal and rising from 7 feet below normal 48 hours ago. The drastic rise is due to recent rains which have caused the Upper Illinois RIver and Baron Fork Creek to crest right at flood stage. This rapid influx of flood water has stained the upper regions of the lake and slowed fishing activity significantly. The lower end of the lake near the dam presents clearer water with better fishing conditions which for all species which is still rated as "slow". We needed the water!

Additional Information:
Due to recent rainfall and cold temps fish patterns have shifted. Below the dam, I've seen multitudes of dead shad flowing down the river, fish tend to gorge on them during these times. So plan on fishing to be slower in the next few days.
