MARCH

1: The Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation Regular Commission Meeting.  Meetings are held monthly at the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation Building (auditorium), 1801 N. Lincoln, Oklahoma City, OK at 9:00 am

5: Payne County Audubon Society monthly meeting on Bluebirds of Payne County at the Stillwater Public Library at 7 p.m.

5: The SE Strutter's Chapter National Wild Turkey Federation in McAlester, Ok is having there 16th Annual Hunting Heritage Fundraising Banquet at Southeast Expo Center, west Hwy 270 of the City of McAlester. The evening events include a fine meal, live auction, silent auction, games and also you could go home with one of several guns to be given away that night. Tickets and 1 year membership is $45 single, or $60 for a couple. There are other levels of sponsorships available. For tickets and other information contact Gary Garman at (918)470-8279.

6: 89er Chapter of Trout Unlimited, 15th Annual Banquet & Auction. The 89er Chapter of Trout Unlimited will hold its 15th Annual Banquet and Auction at Sportsman’s Country Club, 4001 NW 39th Street in Oklahoma City. Preview of all auction items starts at 5:30 pm. The Live Auction begins at 7:00 pm. Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 when purchased at the door. 6-7: National Shoot to Retrieve Association Spring Field Trial at Garfield Kennel Club, Enid. Cost is $37 For more information contact Tarena Wohl at (580) 488-2982 or http://www.oknstra.netkennel.com/

9: Bob Walshaw will present a hands-on Bluebird program including how to deal with the alien killer house sparrows at Bass Pro Shops in Broken Arrow at 7 p.m. This will be held in the upstairs seminar room, is free and open to the public and door prizes will be awarded.

9: Central Oklahoma 89er Chapter of Quail Forever meeting at Coach's BBQ and Pizza (3005 S Broadway) Edmond. Meeting starts at  6:30 p.m.

13: The BassPro Shops in Broken Arrow will be hosting Spring Fishing Classic Seminars. Seminars will be held hourly from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. The first seminar will be rods, reels and line - understanding the basics followed by locating pre-spawn fish, popular new products for 2010 and tournament fishing strategies.

13-14: National Shoot to Retrieve Association Spring Field Trial at Top Flight Game Birds, Bartlesville.  Cost is $37 For more information contact Rhonda Heskett at (918) 914-3349 or http://www.oknstra.netkennel.com/

14: The BassPro Shops in Broken Arrow will be hosting Spring Fishing Classic Seminars. Seminars will be held hourly from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. The first seminar will be setting up for spoonbill,  followed by popular new products for 2010, spring crappie fishing secrets and rod and reel maintenance.

15: Rabbit season closes.

15: The third and final planned "KIDS ONLY" trout fishing days at The Tulsa Trout Pond. Adults, only when accompanied by a child, may fish on kids only days. An Oklahoma fishing license is required by all those over 16 years of age who fish. The Tulsa Trout Pond is located in The Gardens at LaFortune Park near the corner of Hudson and 51st Street in Tulsa. The final stocking of The Tulsa Trout Pond took place on March 1st so there are plenty of trout remaining in the pond. Watch for news of FISH-OUT weekend, where limits will be raised from 4 trout to 12 trout per angler, per day until they are all caught. Funding for the trout for the pond was made possible by the Oklahoma Chapter of Trout Unlimited and NatureWorks, Inc.

19-21: Northwest Oklahoma' s Outdoor Expo at the Woodward Fairgrounds (108 Temple Houston Drive). Seminars, demonstrations and hands-on exhibits. Guest speaker is Ted Nugent. For more information contact Jim Curtiss or Debbie Hickman at (580) 256-9990.

20: The BassPro Shops in Broken Arrow will be hosting Spring Hunting Seminars. Seminars will be held every two hours from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The first seminar will be Let's talk turkey - learning turkey vocalizations, followed by patterning your shotgun, let's talk turkey and how to effectively use your turkey decoys.

21: The BassPro Shops in Broken Arrow will be hosting Spring Hunting Seminars. Seminars will be held every two hours from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The first seminar will be how to set up a ground blind for turkey followed by Turkey...field to table with local celebrity Chef Michael Fusco and selecting the right camo and turkey vest.

26: Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation standardized employment exam at Rose State College. Testing begins at 10 a.m. No one will be admitted after that time. A photo ID is required for admission. For more information click here.

27: The BassPro Shops in Broken Arrow will be hosting Spring Hunting Seminars. Seminars will be held every two hours from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The first seminar will be Let's talk turkey - learning turkey vocalizations, followed by selecting the right camo and turkey vest, let's talk turkey and how to navigate the turkey woods with a GPS.

27: The Three Rivers Limbhangers chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation and the Lone Star 4-H will be hosting a Still Target Shoot, at Creek County Fairgrounds west of Sapulpa. This will be a Sanctioned and non-sanctioned shoot. To compete in the sanctioned round you must be a NWTF member. Memberships will be available at the shoot. Top qualifiers will advance to Nationals. Cash prizes. Shooters will shoot from 40 yard distance from a sitting position. Barrel length not to excess 32" including choke tube. No mechanical rest allowed. Ammo provided,12ga or 20ga. only. Youth and Adult divisions All sights and optics allowed. Most shot in 3" circle wins. Registration starts at 8:00am, Shoot begins at 9:00am.and goes until 3:00pm.
