STEP 1: What Are Controlled Hunts?
|
|||
|
|
Awarded to applicants selected in a random drawing, controlled hunts are held in situations where unrestricted hunting would pose safety concerns or where over harvest might occur. Several of the controlled hunt choices are highly sought after and often have many times more applicants than available permits. | ||

CONTROLLED HUNT CATEGORY DESCRIPTIONS
NEW FOR 2008 1. Oklahoma’s license laws have changed. Many hunting licenses and permits can now be sold with an apprentice designation that allows individuals ages 16 to 35 without hunter education certification to hunt under certain conditions, provided: 1. They hunt with a licensed, hunter-education certified mentor who is 21 years of age or older and 2. The mentor is within arm’s length of the apprentice hunter and close enough to take immediate control of the firearm or archery equipment of the apprentice. For complete details, click here.
2.
Beginning this year, hunt information for successful applicants will be
immediately available online once fees are paid. Successful applicants will
need to access the drawing results and print off their specific hunt
instructions and maps from the controlled hunts web site once all
appropriate fees are paid. These items will not be mailed. To view or print
off maps and hunt instructions, visit the controlled hunts web site at
www.wildlifedepartment.com/controlhunt.htm The actual permit allowing
access to the hunt area will be mailed to successful applicants once fees
are paid. |
