AMERICAN HORSE LAKE
*Lake access closed due to road conditions as a result of flooding.*
The 2007 flood washed out many roads and bridges in Blaine County. Blain County is in the process of working through their reconstruction list. The road to American Horse is slated to be reopened this summer. Although the flood did some major damage like washing out the roads and the dam it has benefited the fish population. The Wildlife Department went in and surveyed the fish population and found Bluegill of all sizes and a healthy bass population. They found few to no carp so the vegetation should come back. The Wildlife Department will also start restocking aquatic vegetation in the lake. The flood also washed down new woody habitat. The lake is currently 5 ft. below normal, when the lake reaches normal pool the fishing should be good when the road is reopened.
