New Year's Day will mark the opening of Oklahoma City's seventh annual rainbow trout season at Dolese Youth Park Pond, one of Oklahoma City's "Close to Home" fishing waters, located 1/2 block west of Meridian on NW 50. Thousands of fish will be stocked through the eight-week season, opening January 1 and running through February 28, 2010. The rainbow trout will average 1/2 pound in weight and ninety percent of the fish will be 8 to 14 inches in length. The remainder will be trophy size fish up to 24 inches in length. "We recommend using four to six pound test line and small hooks. The best baits in past trout seasons have been Power Bait, salmon eggs, small earth worms, small minnows, small spinners and crappie jigs," said Oklahoma City fisheries biologist Bob MartinThe trout fishing regulations for Oklahoma City are as follows:
Dolese's rainbow trout season is a partnership between the Oklahoma City Parks and Recreation Department and the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation. City fishing permits are $15 for an annual permit or $3 for a daily permit. State fishing licenses are $25 annually. Children under 16 are not required to have a City permit or state license.
