2023 - 2024 OKNASP & Oklahoma Varsity Archery State Qualification

Coaches,

Well the time is near, archery season is upon us.  As we get closer to our first qualification date I wanted to reach out and give you all the information you need to complete your qualification shoots. We look forward to seeing all your submissions and wish you all the best of luck.

Qualifying

Each qualifying time period (December and January) you will submit a team score from one shoot that occurred during the dates assigned. All of the scores submitted must be from the same shoot. You may participate in several shoots during the qualifying dates, but all scores for your students must come from the same shoot. Once a score is submitted for the period, you may not submit another for the same period. You will submit 12 scores for your team.  The 12 scores must fall within the gender balance rules set by NASP and the ODWC (I.E. top 4 Boys, top 4 girls, and your next 4 high regardless of gender).

If you submit fewer than 12 scores the highest number of archers you sent in for qualification will be the number you are allowed at state.  Example if you only submit 8 archers' scores for qualification you will only get 8 lanes for your team at state.  If you submit 12 scores for any qualification period your team will automatically be assigned a full 16 spots at the state shoot.

Your team must submit a score in December and in January’s periods to qualify for state.

You will use the excel form found in the link below to record and submit your teams score. Please submit your form to kelly.boyer@odwc.ok.gov by the last day of the qualifying period. The form must be filled out completely to be eligible for acceptance. I will not accept forms that are missing data in a field.

You may substitute archers from week to week as needed.

We will accept the following forms of a shoot as a qualifying shoot:

OKNASP

  • Tournament score
  • Inner-school shoot ( where you shoot against another school)
  • NASP® St. Jude E-Championship Charity Tournament Series (must be observed by an administrator of the school or another school’s Coach or BAI to be accepted)

Only St. Jude E-Champion Tournaments may be used for the virtual option.  They are free to enter and they get you familiarized with the NASP tournament system before you start having to use it for the state competition.  More information can be found on the link below.

nasptournaments.org/eChampionship/

If you are shooting a virtual score, your school administrator or another school’s coach or BAI must be present during the collection of scores.  That administrator/BAI must submit an email to me (kelly.boyer@odwc.ok.gov) stating that they witnessed the shoot and that they ensure integrity of the scores. This communication must be sent before the score will be accepted.

Scores must be taken using 80cm FITA face paper targets.  Many lines on bag or other targets are not the same thickness thus leads to an advantage in scoring.  These target faces can be purchased through NASP or Morrell Archery Targets.

Oklahoma Varsity Archery

  • Tournament score
  • Inner-school shoot ( where you shoot against another school)
  • Virtual shoot (must be observed by an administrator of the school or another school’s Coach or BAI to be accepted)

Scores must be taken from the approved Varsity Archery turkey target. In the link below you will find printable file types of the Varsity Archery turkey target. You may print whatever you need for practice or shoots. The print size is 34”W x 32”T for each target. If you are hosting a tournament or an inner-school shoot with a Varsity Archery division, please reach out to me so I can get you targets. NASP does not want us to use their system for registration and scoring.  I have a registration form as well as a scoring form that can be used.  You will need to calculate the scores by hand.  I am working on a format with the “Arrow Score” system that will act very similarly to the NASP system. However that has not been completed at this time.

Dates for the qualifiers:

December 4th – 18th 2023

January 5th – 21st 2024

If you are in need of assistance to run or setup a shoot during one of the qualifying weeks you may reach out to Brian Jackson with “TNT on the Go”.  He offers a mobile service to assist in hosting archery tournaments and we highly recommend his services if you so need them.  You can contact Brian at (918) 680-0930 for his availability and pricing.

Submitting Scores:

Submit your scores to: kelly.boyer@odwc.ok.gov

When you are ready to submit your scores, in the subject line of your email, please put this format; Team name, Q1 or Q2, Division

Once I receive your score and record it you will receive a confirmation reply that it has been received.  If you do not receive a confirmation that I have received your emailed score please reach out to me and I will investigate.

Once again the scores will all be averaged at the end of the series.  In the event of a tie the average number of 10’s will break the tie.

If you fail to submit a score for a qualifying period your team will not qualify for state.

At the conclusion of the qualifying periods I will average your two scores This average score will determine what tier your school will shoot at the state shoot.

All of this information and the score sheets will be posted on our website.

If anything comes up or you have any questions along the way please do not hesitate to reach out.  I will try to be as accommodating as I can be but please know we only have so much time to get all the scores in and tiers assigned.  Good luck and have fun.
