The Department's Fisheries Division manages this important recreational resource, and meets this challenge by focusing on management, research and production.
This section works with private citizens, state and federal agencies, municipalities, sportsmen's clubs and lake associations. They survey fish populations, construct manmade fish habitat, recommend water level plans for improved natural reproduction and recommend harvest restrictions.

This section spawns and raises fish for stocking. There are hatcheries at Holdenville, Durant, Medicine Park and Byron. Fish species produced and stocked annually include largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, bluegill, hybrid sunfish, channel catfish, saugeye, sauger, striped bass, striped bass hybrid, walleye, brown trout and rainbow trout. Annual fish stockings average 11 million fish.
