Category 4 - Deer Hunts for Motor Vehicle or Non-ambulatory Permittees

 

Only persons who hold either a non-ambulatory permit or motor vehicle permit may apply for Category 4 either individually or with up to three additional hunters who possess one of these permits (except Salt Plains NWR and Deep Fork NWR, one applicant only). Applicants may apply using an apprentice-designated license unless otherwise noted below. However, they must be hunter education certified prior to participating in the deer hunt OR they must apply in a group with an accompanying, licensed hunter 21 years old or older who possesses a certificate of hunter education or is exempt from either hunter education requirements or hunting license requirements. Up to three (3) hunt choices may be selected.  Applicants are limited to persons possessing at least one of the following free permits prior to applying:                                                                                  

   Non-ambulatory Permit - Persons who are unable to walk due to a single or double leg amputation, paralysis of lower extremity(ies) and/or disease or injury and are confined to a wheelchair as their primary source of mobility as certified by a medical doctor licensed to practice in Oklahoma or a bordering state may receive this permit.

   Motor Vehicle Permit - Persons having a permanent disability which confines them to a wheelchair, or requires the use of crutches, a walker or other means of support or assistance for body mobility as certified by a medical doctor licensed to practice in Oklahoma or a bordering state.  Applicants must provide hunting license type, hunting license number and either a non-ambulatory or motor vehicle permit number when applying for Category 4.  Persons with these permits may also put in with non-permitees for Category 3 hunts, in which case accommodations can be made through the area manager for successful applicants possessing one of these permits (except for Salt Plains NWR).

G)

Hunters are required to attend a mandatory meeting at Refuge Headquarters on Friday.

J)

One applicant only. Applicants must be hunter education certified prior to participating in these hunts or be exempt from hunter education requirements.

K)

Two (2) deer limit. First deer – Antlerless or spike only. Second deer – Either-Sex.

P)

Two (2) deer limit. One doe and one buck with minimum 15-inch antler spread.  Hunt begins at noon on Friday and ends at noon on Sunday.

T)

Hunters are required to attend a mandatory pre-hunt briefing on the first day of the hunt at noon at Refuge headquarters.  All handguns are prohibited.  Disabled hunters may use an ATV with an ODWC Non-ambulatory Permit.
