Public Hunting
|

|
The
most serious problem facing outdoor recreationists in
general, and hunters in particular, is finding a place to
pursue their individual interests. Since many people have
lost ties with the people who own or control access to
land, public use areas are in great demand. The Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation tries to provide some land for public hunting across our state and manages over 1.6 million acres of Wildlife Management Areas statewide. Included in these areas are the lands covered in two cooperative agreements, one between the ODWC and John Hancock Insurance Company the other between the Department and Weyerhaeuser Company. The completion of these agreements ensures that public hunting, fishing, camping and other outdoor activities will be allowed as long as all parties are satisfied with the success of this venture. For more information on these two unique partnerships, contact the Departments Southeast Regional Office at 918/297-0150.
