YOUTH HUNTING SEASONS AND REGULATIONS

Youth Licenses

Resident Youth Hunting and Resident Youth Combination Hunting/Fishing: Legal residents of Oklahoma who are 16 or 17 years old are eligible to purchase the $5 annual youth hunting or $9 annual youth combination hunting/fishing license.

Resident Youth Deer Archery: Available to legal residents of Oklahoma who are under 18 years of age. License cost is $10. The youth deer archery license may be used during the regular deer archery season.

Resident Youth Deer Gun and Resident Youth Deer Primitive: Available to legal residents of Oklahoma who are under 18 years of age. Each license costs $10. The youth deer gun license (antlered or antlerless) may be used during the youth deer gun season or during the regular deer gun season. The youth deer primitive license (antlered or antlerless) may be used during the regular deer muzzleloader season.

Resident Youth Special Antlerless Deer Gun: Legal residents of Oklahoma who are under 18 years of age are eligible to purchase the $10 youth special antlerless deer gun license. It may only be used during the special antlerless deer gun season.

Youth Deer Gun

Age Requirements

Youth under 18 years of age. All youth while hunting are required to be accompanied by an adult, 18 years old or older. The adult cannot gun hunt, but may archery hunt while accompanying the youth hunter. The adult hunter may not possess any firearms.

License Requirements

Resident youth under 16 years of age: Exempt from the purchase of a hunting license and the fishing & hunting legacy permit, but must have successfully completed a hunter education course. Must possess a youth deer license (antlered or antlerless) or proof of exemption. Those exempt include holders of a resident lifetime hunting or lifetime combination license.

Resident youth 16 and 17 years old: Must possess a hunting license (see page 5) or proof of exemption. In addition, must possess a youth deer gun license (antlered or antlerless) for each deer hunted or proof of exemption.

Nonresident youth under 14 years of age: Must possess a nonresident deer license (see page 14). Exempt from a hunting license and the fishing & hunting legacy permit.

Nonresident youth 14 - 17 years old: Must possess a nonresident deer license (see page 14) and a fishing & hunting legacy permit. Exempt from a hunting license.

Dates & Open Areas

Oct. 19 - 21, 2007; statewide.

Youth Deer Gun Limit

Two (2) deer, which may include no more than one (1) antlered and one (1) antlerless deer.

Deer taken by youth hunters participating in the youth deer gun season are included in the hunter’s combined season limit.

Harvest of antlerless mule deer is prohibited during the youth deer gun season.

Youth Deer Gun Licenses

Youth hunters who do not harvest a deer during the youth deer gun season may use their unfilled youth deer gun license(s) during the regular deer gun season to take a deer.

Youth hunters who do harvest a deer during the youth deer gun season may purchase another youth deer gun license and harvest a deer during the regular deer gun season.

Legal Means of Taking

Equipment described as legal for deer gun season.

Hunter Orange

Hunters participating in the youth deer gun season must conspicuously wear both a head covering and an outer garment above the waistline, both consisting of hunter orange color totaling at least 400 square inches. Camouflage hunter orange is legal.

Hunters participating in the youth deer gun season using archery equipment must conspicuously wear either a head covering or an outer garment above the waistline consisting of hunter orange. Camouflage hunter orange is legal.

SPRING 2008 - YOUTH TURKEY

Age Requirements

Youth under 18 years of age. All youth while hunting are required to be accompanied by an adult, 18 years old or older. The adult may not hunt or possess any firearms or archery equipment.

License Requirements

Resident youth under 16 years of age: Must possess a turkey license or proof of exemption.

Exempt from a hunting license and the fishing & hunting legacy permit.

Resident youth 16 and 17 years old: Must possess a hunting license (see page 5) and a turkey license or proof of exemption.

Exempt from the fishing & hunting legacy permit.

Nonresident youth under 14 years of age: Must possess a turkey license or proof of exemption. Exempt from a hunting license and a fishing & hunting legacy permit.

Nonresident youth 14 - 17 years old: Must possess a nonresident annual hunting license, the fishing & hunting legacy permit, and a turkey license for each bird to be hunted unless otherwise exempt.

Nonresident lifetime license holders are required to purchase a nonresident annual hunting license and turkey license(s).

The nonresident five-day hunting license is not valid for hunting turkey.

Dates & Open Areas

March 29 - 30, 2008; statewide.

Season Limit

The limit is one (1) tom turkey.

Turkeys taken by youth turkey hunters participating in the spring youth turkey season are included in the youth hunter’s county and regular spring season limits.

Unfilled Spring Turkey License

Youth hunters who do not harvest a turkey during the spring youth turkey season may use their unfilled turkey license during the regular spring turkey season.
