Description:

Eastern bluebirds are among the most beautiful songbirds, which were declining up until the point that people began providing nest boxes for them. Come learn about eastern bluebirds, and other cavity-nesting songbirds, and how to build, place and manage their nest boxes. During this course, you will build a nest box that you can take home. You should also have the opportunity to view actual bluebird nesting activity in nest boxes.

You have to get up early to participate in the Breeding Bird Tour at Hackberry Flat Wildlife Management Area. Wetland birds and prairie birds will be nesting and participants will help identify, count and record species observed for the Hackberry Flat species database. This tour invites beginners and long-time birders to participate. Transportation is provided by an open-air trailer with shade cloth. Please be prepared for warm temperatures by wearing a hat and sunscreen. Binoculars are available for your use. Tour participants are exempt from having a current hunting or fishing license or Wildlife Conservation Passport for the day.

GENERAL OVERVIEW


Prescribed fire is a natural process in the southern Great Plains, where the landscape evolved under fire and grazing. Fire can improve wildlife habitat, reduce woody plants, remove thatch, and improve forage quality and quantity for livestock.


The most important way to safely burn is to gain experience conducting burns. If weather parameters are within prescription during the field day, we will attempt multiple burns to give you real experience conducting prescribed fire management.

The Tri-City Sportsmen NWTF is hosting a Saddle Hunter Workshop Thursday July 23, 2020 starting at 5:30 pm at the ODWC Department's Arcadia Conservation Education Area on the south end of Lake Arcadia in Edmond.


This workshop will introduce Saddle Hunting to hunters interested in learning the basics of saddle hunting. The agenda includes an introduction to Saddle Hunting - why saddle hunt, pros and cons, etc., 2) Saddle Hunting Gear - introduction to basic gear, and 3) try it out, a hands trying it out at ground level.
