Where To Hunt

Attention - New rules apply to non-residents:

  • Public Area Check-In: Non-residents must check in and out when accessing certain Oklahoma public hunting and fishing areas. There is no additional cost or limit on the number of check-ins.
  • Deer Licenses: A 2 day waiting period applies to nonresident deer licenses purchased after the deer season has started. Licenses must be purchased at least 48 hours before hunting.

ODWC-Managed Lands: Opportunity May Be Closer Than You Think

Oklahoma offers some of the most diverse and rewarding public land access opportunities in the United States. From the antelopes of the shortgrass prairie to the elusive black bears in the southeast, Oklahoma is an outdoor paradise. Oklahoma boasts more than a million acres of public hunting land managed by the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation (ODWC). The primary objective for these lands is the sound management and use of Oklahoma's natural resources, including conservation, hunting, fishing, shooting and other outdoor recreation.

Important categories of lands managed by ODWC include Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs) and Oklahoma Land Access Program properties (OLAP). On these you can find access points, shooting ranges, habitat restoration projects, and more. Check out some of the opportunities!

 

Public access to Department-managed lands is offered according to the following priorities:

  1. Hunting, fishing, trapping, and running dogs for sport and associated activities.
  2. Other wildlife-oriented activities (nature observation or photography, and conservation education).
  3. Non-wildlife-related activities, when such activities do not conflict with the wildlife management objective (picnicking, hiking, backpacking, short-term camping, horseback riding).
  4. Large group activities (military training, organized trail rides).
