The Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation partnered with Ducks Unlimited and Quail Forever to acquire 377 acres of historic wetland basin habitat at Drummond Flats Wildlife Management Area.
Since 2006, ODWC and its partners have worked hard to restore and conserve critical waterfowl and upland habitat near the town of Drummond in Garfield County. Last year, with the help of donations from Ducks Unlimited and Quail Forever, ODWC was able to acquire three additional tracts adjacent to Drummond Flats WMA. Matching federal funds also helped with the acquisitions.
One tract contains an ephemeral wetland that holds water following local rainfall events. It also contains a portion of Turkey Creek that flows through the second tract acquired by ODWC.
The first and second tracts fall within the historic wetland basin. The third tract provides an upland buffer. Together, these tracts will increase and protect critical habitat for waterfowl, upland game, and other migratory birds.
