Fishing is a great way to unwind and spend quality time together. This Father’s Day, take your dad fishing and give him the chance to relax and enjoy the peacefulness of the water. Whether you’re going after sunfish, bass, or catfish, the joy of sharing the experience is what makes it memorable. Surprise him with a new fishing rod and make sure he’s set with a fishing license. Look into nearby fishing spots such as Close to Home Fishing areas that have walking paths, and easy access, or if he’s more adventurous, take a look through our “Where to Fish” webpage for more options. Fishing is a simple, meaningful way to celebrate the day outdoors..

This year, skip the socks and grilling gadgets; instead, give Dad an experience he won’t forget. Whether he’s a lifelong firearm enthusiast or curious to try something new, a day at the shooting range is a fun, hands-on way to celebrate Father’s Day with a little extra bang.

The Wildlife Department has been investing heavily in public shooting access at Wildlife Management Areas across the state, seeing as recreational shooters are one of the top supporters of Wildlife Conservation through their purchase of firearms and ammunition. The federal government collects excise taxes from manufacturers of these products, which then must be distributed back to the states for conservation funding.
