As Oklahoma’s hunting season begins, many hunters are planning where to go. An opportunity that should not be overlooked is ODWC’s Land Access Program. OLAP began around 2016 with the goal of providing more public access for Oklahoma’s sportspersons. And this year, we are excited to announce two partnerships that will not only benefit OLAP users, but also Oklahoma’s wildlife.

onX

ODWC and onX have partnered to provide the OLAP map boundaries to all onX subscribers. This has been a long time coming and should provide more value to any Oklahoma sportspersons that subscribes to onX. Once an onX subscriber has updated their app (or an app update is pushed), OLAP properties will be viewable by selecting Hunt Map Layers > Oklahoma > OK Walk In Areas. If the layer is not appearing for you, try updating your app or logging out and then back in and the layers should then be viewable.

Even though OLAP is now available on onX, our free maps are not going anywhere. The OLAP Map Directory is available here and is the most up to date way to see any changes to the OLAP.

PATH

Following years of steady growth, landowner enrollment in OLAP has leveled off around 90,000 acres over the past two seasons. Unfortunately, the delayed Farm Bill has limited our ability to enroll new properties into the program. To help overcome this challenge, ODWC recently partnered with Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever (PF & QF). Modeled after successful initiatives in South Dakota and Nebraska, ODWC and PF & QF are excited to bring the “Public Access to Habitat” (PATH) Initiative to Oklahoma, with a focus on quail habitat. Oklahoma PATH will generate additional financial support for OLAP, allowing for the continued expansion of public hunting opportunities on private lands within key geographies throughout the state. Through PATH, funds raised by local PF & QF chapters, donors, and corporate partners leveraged by an onX Adventure Forever Grant and ODWC funding (including Pittman-Robertson funds).
