The Oklahoma Wildlife Conservation Commission adopted new rules in 2025 that require non-residents accessing certain Oklahoma public hunting and fishing areas to check in and out of the area. By checking in and out of these areas, hunters, anglers, shooters, birdwatchers, hikers, and any other users can help the Wildlife Department better understand how the area is being used. There is no additional cost associated with checking in or out of an area. There is no limit to the number of check-ins for an individual in a year.

Constructed in 1989, this lake was named after the late R.C. Longmire who among others, saw the need for additional water supply for the city of Pauls Valley. This 745 acre impoundment and surrounding area offers ample recreational opportunity including fishing, boating, camping, hiking, bird watching, hunting, and swimming, pavilion, picnic, and restroom facilities are also available for social functions.
Fish surveys are conducted every five years. Brush piles are put in the lake for fish habitat in addition to fish stockings. Artificial and natural fish attractors are maintained throughout the lake, and Florida Largemouth Bass are stocked periodically.
