Fishing Report

We know that fishing in Oklahoma can be good nearly all year round but the peak time for most species and anglers is March to June, which is when we require reports to be submitted. If there is a particular lake you would like to know about during the non-required report time you can contact the county game warden or a local bait shop to check on the lake conditions before heading out.

Fishing was really good early in the week but took a bit of a hit after the cold front moved through. Fish are still in the same spots but are being finicky. Once the warmer weather arrives these tips should be spot on. Fish for crappie along the dam and the nearby bluffs. They've been caught in water as shallow as 8-10 feet before cold front. White Bass are being caught below dam and at the gigging flats. Black Bass being caught with cranks and finesse baits along rocks and the shoreline.

Additional Information:
Due to recent rains, the river is rising and muddy and has shut down the sand bass in the upper Illinois River and lake. Water conditions will be murky for awhile in the upper portions. Sand bass are spawning in clear creek channels and inlets. Crappie keep moving closer and closer to shallower water but are not on the bank yet. Black bass are good on traditional baits and locations for pre-spawn activity. Good luck.

With recent rains, the lake level is rising, and water has become muddy. Striper have been biting well on live shad and larger minnows. If short on bait using cut bait on feeding schools of fish will produce good numbers of fish. Using sassy shad in 20-25ft of water has been good, allow bait to sink to bottom and slowly retrieve to catch fish. Crappie have been moving on and off bank with all the crazy weather so trying crappie fishing at different depths will best method for finding crappie, with muddy water use dark colored jigs.

Additional Information:
Lake Texoma fishing is great now that the water has cleared up. Striped Bass fishing is in full swing, they are being caught with a number of techniques which include live bait, Sassy Shad, Long Line Trolling, Cut bait. Trolling bill baits in 20-24 ft of water will produce over 20" fish ( Only 2 per angler ) Using cut bait will produce mostly box fish with overs mixed in. Use sassy shad on 20-30ft depth transitions, allow the bait to go to the bottom and retrieve bait slowly while reeling sassy shad uphill to produce a strike. Using cut bait has been producing fish while fishing on anchor paired with a generous amount of chum in the water. Bank fishing for stripers has been good when using ghost minnows cast along sandy windblown beaches. Now on to Crappie fishing, Crappie fishing has been hit or miss with the weather being so crazy. Crappie are still staging in about 15ft of water, crappie have been baiting in early mornings and late evenings off of docks, Orange and black have been great colors for producing bites. Catfish will be caught in the river mouths and smaller fish in the main lake drifting cut bait. Bass fishermen have been catching fish in 4-6 ft of water on bill baits or spinners.

Additional Information:

Good luck.

Additional Information:
With recent rains, the lake level is rising, and water has become muddy. Striper have been biting well on live shad and larger minnows. If short on bait using cut bait on feeding schools of fish will produce good numbers of fish. Using sassy shad in 20-25ft of water has been good, allow bait to sink to bottom and slowly retrieve to catch fish. Crappie have been moving on and off bank with all the crazy weather so trying crappie fishing at different depths will best method for finding crappie, with muddy water use dark colored jigs.
