Quail (Bobwhite & Scaled) Regulations

License Requirements

Residents & Nonresidents: A hunting license (see Licenses & Permits) or proof of exemption. The adult nonresident 5-day hunting license is not valid for hunting quail.

Any nonresident hunting game birds on a WMA (this includes any GMA, PHA, WRP, WDU, or WMU), must possess a game bird permit.

Some WMAs closed to nonresidents after Jan 31.

Statewide.

Daily Limit

10 daily, 20 in possession after the first day.

 


 

Legal Means of Taking

Shotgun (conventional or muzzleloading), longbow, legal raptors and as otherwise provided under General Hunting Regulations.

Pot Shooting

At no time may any quail or covey be shot while resting on the ground, commonly called “pot shooting.”

Public Lands

Seasons on public lands may vary from statewide seasons. Consult public hunting lands special regulations.

Quail Wing Boxes

Wing donation boxes are available for hunters planning to hunt at Beaver River, Optima, Packsaddle, Cooper, Kaw, Drummond Flats, Canton, Fort Supply, Cross Timbers, and Pushmataha management areas. Donated wings help with quail research across the state.  Watch the video below for more information.
